In 2008, 367 Active Reactor 150W and 250W HPS luminaires were installed in the towns of Traralgon, Moe and Morwell within the City of Latrobe in Victoria’s Gippsland region. In addition 79 control luminaires were installed to provide options for metering to demonstrate the comparative energy savings benefits of the Active Reactor.

Metering was applied to 2 groups of 150W luminaires. The energy savings were found to be 29%. This was a higher than expected savings (compared with laboratory results of 25%) and was attributed the power supply running over voltage. In over voltage situations the Active Reactor regulates the voltage whereas conventional (control) lights do not and so burn even brighter and consume more energy than under standard voltage conditions.
