Springvale Road, Melbourne

The first Active Reactor street lighting trial was conducted along a stretch of Springvale Road, Forest Hill, one of Melbourne’s major arterial roads, in conjunction with the City of Whitehorse and distribution company Alinta (now Jemena). The trial, comprising 14 Active Reactor 250W HPS luminaires with 14 equivalent control luminaires, commenced in August 2004 and data were measured over a 4 year period.

The results indicated a 23% energy saving when using the Active Reactor. In addition, while no lamp failures were reported, lamp voltage measurements indicated that the lamps in the control luminaires were ageing twice as fast as those in the Active Reactor luminaires.
